Unfortunately, long live the Queen didn’t manifest when the Renaissance fair comes to town. Hi, I’m Cora and along with my Nana, father Ben and most of the town….well, we be witchy. Most of the town that is, except for some mundane folks who think the magical backstory is all folklore. Joke’s on them. But to keep ourselves under the radar, we mainly mind our p’s and q’s. Most of the time.
Nana and I run the local bakery….she’s the brains behind the baked goods and I’m the brawn. Someone has to haul those hefty cookie sheets on the racks. But now I have a murder to solve. I may not be a licensed detective, but a little badge never stopped me. Much to the chagrin of the local warlock/sheriff, Cody. It’s okay, he’ll get use to my perseverance…maybe.
Although there is one being who might like me to stick to baking him treats only is my familiar, Sir Jasper Jones. Poor fellow was a knight in a former life until he tangled with a dark witch. Now he has to settle for licking his privates and the occasional tuna treat. I think he likes both rather too much.
2. A Chase of Twilight – When an elderly woman is killed out walking her dogs, Cora doesn’t believe the stolen necklace removed from the deceased woman is the main motive. Neither does Sir Jasper, her familiar. He thinks the dogs did it…but then he he’s a little biased.
Cody is taking classes to sharpen his magic skills. However, when he meets a new woman at the meetings, will Cora have a rival? She tries to tell Nana nothing’s going on between her and Cody. But Nana knows her granddaughter all too well.
And speaking of Nana, what is it that makes her and Ben, Cora’s father, squabble so? The truth will come out sooner or later.
3. A Chase of Darkness – A Nail Salon Murder and a Suspicious Nana
Cora is up to her eyeballs in cake dough as the annual baking competition is ready to start. But she is sidelined when a nail tech at the local salon is murdered. Cora and friends were just there the day before, and what she witnessed has several people on the suspect list.Nana has been acting strange toward Sophie for a while now and Cora is over it. She doesn’t understand what Nana has against her. Is it because she fears Sophie will steal Cody away from Cora…or is there more going on? Ben has gone on vacation so she can’t get answers from him. Or is he somewhere he doesn’t want Cora to know about?
4. A Chase of Nightfall – A Witch on the Rampage and a Pawn Store Murder
Cora is beside herself when Sophie goes on the rampage after learning about her real parents. The information causes Sophie so much distress, her powers become destructive. Can Cora and Sir Jasper make her see that all is not lost? Or will they be victims of her wrath?
When a pawn shop owner falls from her balcony to sudden death, many wonder if it was suicide or murder? The victim was arguing with a person the day before, but who was it? Her best friend seems distraught, but is she putting on a front? And the janitor who worked at the pawn shop tried to ask the victim out but was always rebuffed. Did she turn him down one too many times, or did she have something on him that he didn’t want exposed? Or is the culprit within the same blood line?
5. A Chase of Illumination – Crushed at the Book Emporium
When a witch ends up dead at her place of business, the accusations fly. Could a disgruntled employee and fellow witch have had enough of the sour grapes? Or was the vagrant in the back alley tired of having the cops called on him constantly? And what is wrong with the deceased’s husband? He seems spacey and out of sorts. Is it the tragedy of the murder, or is it guilt?
Sophie is on the rampage and she has Ben in her sights. Can Cora convince her that a past terrible wrong can somehow be righted, or is it too late? Will Sophie fulfill the prophesy the ancient witches predicted would occur?
6. A Chase of Enlightenment – Dead Body on the Roof of Cora’s Bakery
When a dead body with strange puncture wounds is dumped on the roof of Cora and Nana’s bakery, suspicions abound on whether it was a supernatural or mundane killing. Especially since Cora heard the body dropping on the roof at 2am. The victim was a warlock…could he have tangled with the wrong paranormal? A rival in the victim’s field may have had it out for him or perhaps an estranged aunt wanted her revenge.
A purple mist is plaguing Cora. She knows it has to do with Sophie, but could it be something even more menacing. Especially when the mist reveals its evil self.
