The Growth of Fighter Command, 1936-1940 by T. C. G. James (Air Defence of Great Britain, 1)
Requirements: .PDF reader, 7 mb
Overview: This work was the first of a series of volumes, originally classified, produced by the Air Historical Branch as the Second World War still raged. These narrative volumes were intended to examine in detail the organisation and operation of the air-defence network in both defensive and offensive operations during the course of the Second World War.
This particular volume deals with the creation of Fighter Command, and the subsequent expansion and reorganisation of the United Kingdom air-defence network. This was designed specifically to meet the newly resurgent threat from Germany, whereas previous planning had addressed only a theoretical and largely chimerical threat from France.
