Overview: It’s 2002, and shady antique dealer Oliver Clasper, and his loyal cabinetmaker Melvyn, have recreated the lost twin of a stunning piece of 18th century French furniture – a piece so valuable, it will sell for millions.
At the eleventh hour however, Oliver has encountered a serious problem. This is the sudden reappearance of his ex business partner Zoltan – a Russian, whose outlandish plan he stole, and who now after twelve years has an overweening desire for revenge.
Into this toxic mix steps Tarquin, an entirely innocent neighbour of Oliver, who inexplicably finds himself the focus of Zoltan’s sadistic henchmen. Confused and frightened, the well heeled Tarquin is struggling to understand this extraordinary situation, which oddly has coincided with his introduction to an unlikely stranger in his life – an enigmatic Romanian called Constanta.
Events move from the sleepy countryside of Gloucestershire to a new and dangerous London where violence lurks around every corner. Tarquin eventually must head for France to escape his pursuers and here, as he struggles to make sense of his predicament, a romance ignites in a magnificent though derelict Chateau near Troyes.
