The Fires of Askell / Feux d’Askell (Les)

    Scotch Arleston story, writer
    Jean-Louis Mourier colours, artist
    Published by Soleil Productions, 1993-1995.

        1. L’onguent admirable, Soleil, 07/1993
        2. Retour à Vocable, Soleil, 08/1994
        3. Corail sanglant, Soleil, 09/1995

It’s got action, charm and humor to spare, woven together by the sumptuous, detailed, granular artwork of Mourier. The quality of the graphics is such that release of an expected fourth book has been delayed because of other work by the artist and because of his refusal to compromise. Bannered by the exotic and deadly heroine Cybil, The Fires of Askell is lush, textured and unabashedly graphic, sensual and explicit in its approach to the graphic novel genre, one that may surprise non-European sensibilities. A stitched French language collected edition of the first 3 books has been published by Sun Productions in 2007. Mature Readers.

This is pherhaps one of the better graphic novels that I have read. Sublime artwork and great storytelling. FinalFantasy, waterworld, Conan, Seamonsters, ultra violence, subtle pornography, Temples, humor, friendship, characteristics, thieves, barbarians, strippers, performers, artists, corruption, oh my god and so much more..
Awesome..! Since I have read it the characters remained in my mind.. I am wondering still how they fare right now since the story abruptley ended with the third album.
        Definetly MUST read.

Sublime! This series is truly a masterpiece that I like. I am a fan of Lanfeust (Troy), I discovered a new facet here Arleston that I boarded a scenario original heroic fantasy full of adventure and humor-filled characters more endearing than each other.Everything trancendé by drawing superb and worked Mourier. We read, we re-read, we want more! Shame that the series have been abandoned by the authors in favor, I guess, more mainstream series (plud therefore profitable) … damage, a final book will have completed the adventure to our delight.

I loved this series blends humor, adventure and eroticism. Mourier was at the top of his game with a style of drawing and coloring incredible. Great art. It’s a pity that the authors have abandoned this series to other more profitable and public. Trolls of Troy, it’s funny but it has nothing to do either in the script or at the drawing.
