Requirements: ePUB/MOBI Reader | RETAIL version, 1.1 MB
Overview: The Eighteenth Parallel, won the Ilakkia Chintanai Book-of-the-Year Award in 1977, and was selected by the National Book Trust of India for translation into several Indian languages. The novel appears in English for the first time in a unique and sensitive translation by Gomathi Narayanan.

Chandrasekhar, adolescent, vulnerable, confused, is growing up in the momentous period before and after 1947, when Hyderabad is the State of Nizam. This political setting drumbeats through the novel, closely and ironically interwoven with Chandru’s life at home, in the city and at college.

Ashokamitran (born 1931, Secunderabad) is one of the most distinguished of contemporary Tamil writers. He began writing as early as 1954. His first novel, Karainda Nizhalgal was published in 1969, followed by seven others of which Tanneer (1973), Padinettavadu Atchakodu (The Eighteenth Parallel) (1977), and Indru (1984) are the best known. He has published eight collections of short stories, and short novels. His contribution to the field of literary criticism has been rich and includes reviews, the co-authorship of Moonru Parvaigal (1984) and the editing of several literary anthologies as well as contributions to journals.
