Fleeing bounty hunters from the alien world, Moira must abandon her baby – resolving to return as soon as possible to reclaim her.
Circumstances postpone this mother and daughter reunion, and years later, as a young teenager shuffled between foster homes all her life, Lorilee knows almost nothing about her mom or her exotic background. Finally settling in with a wonderful family she is happy to claim as her own, Lorilee’s quest for normalcy is thwarted by the sudden appearance of her grandfather, who – like Moira’s mother before her – bestows upon her a book: Moira’s journal.
Following in her mom’s deadly footsteps, Lorilee decides to test the reality of the book’s bizarre claims by performing a ritual listed near its end. This ill-advised decision propels Lorilee on a series of misadventures that threaten to destroy her newfound normality and everyone and everything she holds dear.
