Overview: Being a gay teenager and living in New York City at the end of millennium sounds like it would be easy, but for Marco, he still has to keep his sexuality secret from his heterosexual classmates. After years of feeling isolated from the in-crowd, he finds solidarity with one of them and they form a closer bond than expected. Marco feels life will be different when he graduates in 1997, and at first, Manhattan is a stark contrast to the conformity of his hometown, Staten Island. Entering Manhattan’s infamous underground nightclub scene, befriended by the next generation gay men, he explores super-venues Tunnel, Roxy, Twilo, and Sound Factory, consuming the designer club drugs Ecstasy and special K. As the millennium looms on the horizon, Marco is close to falling over the edge. What is supposed to be an era of celebration and love has everyone spiraling out of control. Marco’s increased drug use and destructive ways are crushing his mind and he fears it might be too late to stop before the year 2000.
