Overview: Marion Chesney Gibbons aka: Ann Fairfax, Jennie Tremaine, Helen Crampton, Charlotte Ward, M.C. Beaton, Sarah Chester.
Marion Chesney was born on 1936 in Glasgow, Scotland, UK, and started her first job as a bookseller in charge of the fiction department in John Smith & Sons Ltd. While bookselling, by chance, she got an offer from the Scottish Daily Mail to review variety shows and quickly rose to be their theatre critic. She left Smith’s to join Scottish Field magazine as a secretary in the advertising department, without any shorthand or typing, but quickly got the job of fashion editor instead. She then moved to the Scottish Daily Express where she reported mostly on crime. This was followed by a move to Fleet Street to the Daily Express where she became chief woman reporter. After marrying Harry Scott Gibbons and having a son, Charles, Marion went to the United States where Harry had been offered the job of editor of the Oyster Bay Guardian. When that didn’t work out, they went to Virginia and Marion worked as a waitress in a greasy spoon on the Jefferson Davies in Alexandria while Harry washed the dishes. Both then got jobs on Rupert Murdoch’s new tabloid, The Star, and moved to New York.

01. Banishment: COULD SHE EVER LOVE A GENTLEMAN AS MUCH AS SHE LOVED HER MAGNIFICENT HOME?
Isabella Beverley is blessed with unparalleled beauty but, unfortunately, has been raised in the most snobbish and haughtiest of families. And when her father gambles away their fortune — including Mannerling, the exquisite family mansion — Isabella discovers there is very little sympathy for her plight.
As the eldest, Isabella is chosen to court Mr. Judd, the roguish bachelor who won Mannerling. Surely no sacrifice is too great to regain Mannerling? But tempting her away from Mr. Judd is Lord Fitzpatrick, an Irish rake who fears Isabella can never love a man as she does her home-but is nonetheless determined to convince her to choose man over manse!

02. Intrigue: OTHING COULD STOP HER QUEST — EXCEPT, PERHAPS, LOVE…
Mannerling, the splendid family estate gambled away by Sir Beverly, remained the passionate desire of his daughters. Beverly himself had died; the eldest daughter, Isabella — having failed in her bid to reclaim their home — was blissfully wed. The mantle of savior then fell to the next eldest daughter, Jessica.
How fortunate that the new owner of Mannerling had a marriageable son. In truth, Harry Devers was a brutal lecher, a drunkard, and a wastrel, but Jessica, blinded by determination, vowed to secure a betrothal. She was barely aware of the attentions of handsome, charming Professor Robert Sommerville, whose affection for Jessica was equaled only by his fear that her obsession to secure Mannerling would lead to disaster for all concerned.
As scandal and intrigue swirled around her, Jessica would discover where the heart finds true happiness.

03. Deception: IT WAS UNFAIR–TO BE FORCED TO CHOOSE BETWEEN HER HOME AND HER HEART….
When one of her sisters is attacked by Harry Devers, the lecherous son of Mannerling’s present owner, Abigail Beverley puts her obsession with reclaiming the mansion on hold. And then Abigail meets the dashing and extremely eligible Lord Burfield, fresh back from the army and in full-time pursuit of a bride.
Yet unexpected circumstances force the insufferable Harry Devers to recuperate from a riding accident in the Beverley home, where Abigail’s twin sister, Rachel, nurses him back to health– -and into betrothal. Stirred from its brief slumber, Abigail’s fury returns, alive and kicking. So when Rachel begins to have doubts about marrying Harry, Abigail devises a daring plan to win back Mannerling once and for all.
But perhaps Abigail would be better off concentrating on Lord Burfield, lest he be snapped up by Prudence Makepeace!
