"What is wrong, Alyx?" Her voice was soft and tranquilizing, the feeling was similar to the initial reaction of laying on a soft bed after a cruel day of labor. I sighed deeply before answering.
"I am a nobody, Naomi. I don’t know my mother or father, I have no idea as to my birthright, I don’t even have a picture of him, Naomi. I am fatherless, a bastard, and nothing more." She seemed to ponder on my words for a while before answering. In the long silence, I grabbed the heavy pendant that hung around my neck. It was simple, yet ornate at the same time. Carved from dwarven wood, and trimmed in elven silver, the pendant was nothing short of beautiful. On the inside, magically sealed into it, lay a picture of a young woman. This woman had eyes of amber and hair of spun gold, laying bouncily around her head and across her shoulders. She wore a beautiful dress of green, the fabric carefully spun and the trim gorgeous, overall well-fitting. She was gorgeous and had hardened eyes, the eyes of a warrior’s wife. I stared at my mother, waiting for Naomi to respond.
3. Shattered Memories
The Wind will shake, and the Flowers will fall. I have sat and wondered what these words meant for days, and I have been thinking about a good many things these last couple of days. Why did I have to be the child of my father? Why could I not simply live peacefully, turning hay, or gathering carrots? That would be a peaceful life, simple and uneventful. If only I was lucky enough for something like that. However, it seems I am not.
