The shrewd and ambitious Rodger Brandon sees not only the chance to one day be running the company instead of Peter, but also sets his sights on Peter’s stunning fiancé. Rivalries come to a head when the two are overseeing the build of the company’s first luxury liner.
The inquiry to the crash sees Peter lose both his master’s licence and his confidence. To escape the pressures, he secretly secures a berth as a quartermaster aboard another ship. But when the new liner becomes a burning inferno on her maiden voyage, could this new tragedy become the catalyst for redemption and retribution?

3. Fleeting Shadows
It is 1939, and Europe is on the brink of war.
Peter Creswell has finally traded in the open water in favour of his family and his business.
However, as he enjoys the company of his wife, daughter and son in the garden of his American estate, he knows this might very well be the last time they are together. Peter and his son, Louis, work for the family company, United Federal Oil.
While Peter has settled behind a desk, Louis has inherited his father’s adoration for the sea, and is due to sail on a company boat to South Africa on the eve of conflict.
Wife and mother, Gwen, is torn apart by the political state of Europe. Not only does it place her son in grave danger, she also knows full well that Peter is in the Naval Reserve. War will more than likely mean losing him for at least a few months, or worse… forever.
Sure enough, Gwen’s worst fears are brought to fruition; it is not long before Peter is sailing up the River Mersey, preparing to serve in another global fight.
Meanwhile, Louis is left navigating the U-Boat infested waters of the Atlantic Ocean, with no protection whatsoever.
Jessica, Gwen’s intelligent and quick-witted daughter, provides some comfort to her mother, while partially managing United Federal Oil and staving off the debauched advances of long term family friend David Huss.
War places a great strain on the family, and when Gwen gathers news that her son’s ship has disappeared, it is almost more than she can bare. Louis fights for his life with the beautiful Linda Richards at his side as the ravages of battle and the forces of nature threaten to destroy his chances of reuniting with his family.
