The Contemporary Monologue: Men by Michael Earley, Philippa Keil (Editors)
Requirements: .ePUB reader, 7.7MB
Overview: The monologues in this volume come from plays produced and published in Britain and America over the past ten years. Each identifies some facet of contemporary thought and feeling. They augment the speeches in our two previous volumes, The Modern Monologue and The Classical Monologue, as well as supplement and update a volume we published a number of years ago, Solo: The Best Monologues of the 80s. Our aim in all these books has been to provide actors with the kind of material that holds the stage and challenges the performer to use skills that will show him to best advantage.
When we put these volumes together we deliberately choose speeches from plays that are in print and readily available. (See Play Sources at the end of this volume.) You simply must read the whole play for the fullest context of any speech. A monologue can never be the whole story of a particular drama. It is always just one character’s point of view at an isolated moment in the action. One story linked to many others.
