Overview: I sold my first short story in 1990 and have sold over 50 stories since then, mostly science fiction, fantasy and horror. Some of my stories were collected into a book called DAYDREAMS UNDERTAKEN, published by Marietta Publishing, 2004.
Genre: Fiction > Sci-Fi/Fantasy
Book #1 – Sign of the Sacrifice
Given by her parents to the fanatical Priests of the Old Gods, so they can sacrifice her to awaken the reptilian Old Gods, a young girl named Shan Lyera must learn to survive in a world gone mad.
She can only succeed with the help of her friends: Ando, whose father breeds giant ravens to the royal family; Higga, a frog-like spawn of the Old Gods whom Shan helped escape from the Slumbering World via her dreams and vomit; Kem, also known as Prince Kemmon, seventh in line for the throne; Anada, or Princess Anada, Kem’s older sister; and the misshapen men Mies, Olly, and Cook, who dwell in the land of the insane Goddess of Light, Vondura, who turned their wives, daughters, mothers, and sisters into silver glass statues, making the men her playthings, each a uniquely deformed freak unable to die, for a thousand summers.
In order to survive, and with the help of her closest companions, Shan must discover her ability to lead an army into war.
Book #2 – Death to King
Shan Lyera, wielder of the Sword of Primordial Fire, finds herself a prisoner of the cruel Desert Kings, along with her closest companions, Ando of Cala, cruelly transformed into a bird- man by the insane goddess, Vondura; Adrea, former princess of Calasaar; Ruan, Shan’s childhood friend and her second-in-command of the army of one-handed girls; and Mies, unnaturally accurate archer of the misshapen men. Like her mythical namesake, Shan must face an eight-armed Stith and ogre guards, although for her the battle is waged in the arenas of the Desert Kingdoms. To avoid a fate of eventually being killed in the arena, Shan must do more than simply win in the arena, she must find a way to overcome all obstacles, free her friends, and kill the Desert Kings whose power allows them to derive entertainment from their blood sport at the expense of innocent lives.
After having her right hand severed by order of the King of Calasaar — who also ordered that all girls in the kingdom who the same age as Shan would also lose their right hand — and after the Mad Queen of Calasaar ordered that all one-handed girls be hunted down and killed — Shan has decided the world would be a much better place without queens and kings. The Desert Kings and their arena death games have reinforced this attitude.
More than anything, though, she wants to find the lands of the Adani, the people of her fabled ancestor, Shan Th’Lyera. To do that, she will have to survive the Desert Kings, cross the Great Desert, enter the Great Empire, and face the Great Emperor himself.
