The Castoffs #1 – A long time ago, Mages and Humans lived side by side in balance. But Humans’ technological advances created the Surrogate, a hive-minded robot army that consumed everything in its path. The Mages fought for their survival in The Great Magic Machine War, dividing the world in two and driving all magic users to remote, technologically barren strongholds. Now, 20 years after the war stalled in a tense cease-fire, a trio of young apprentice mages—Charris, Trinh, and Ursa—must cross the ruined forests to deliver a magical cure to a nearby town. The three girls must learn to trust and rely on each other if they’re going to save the village. Meanwhile, the the Surrogate’s secret preparations to break the cease-fire may finally be complete.
The Castoffs #2 – Charris, Trinh and Ursa are apprentice mages on their first mission—to venture out of their guild through desolate forests, and respond to the cry for help of a healer from a nearby town. The robotic Surrogate isn’t the only danger this forest holds—they also have to contend with marauding magical beasts! But these three are always getting on each other’s nerves or in each other’s way. How will they ever learn to fight as a team?
The Castoffs #3 – The three apprentices have arrived at the village they were supposed to rescue, only to find it abandoned! Gripped by madness, the entire town has left for the Silver, a bizarre outpost in the desert where they plan to rebuild the Surrogate’s robot army, under the sway of a culty Priestess. Now Trinh, Ursa and Charris are on a stealth mission to track a cultist, deep into Surrogate territory and straight towards the danger! How can they thwart the Priestess’s dangerous plan without hurting any brainwashed civilians?
The Castoffs #4 – The apprentice mages are in way over their heads—they’re in the clutches of a cult leader and her hive-mind minions, in the middle of a desert and far from their guild. Can Charris’s formidable weather magic, Trinh’s curse-breaking, and Ursa’s charmed tongue save the day? These girls will have to trust and rely on each other if they’re going to take down the Priestess for good!
The Castoffs #5 – The first battle was only the beginning. Charris, Trinh, and Ursa have returned to Clifton after their epic battle with the Surrogate, only to discover their accomplishment may be only the first victory in a much larger war. Will the mages find a way to work together long enough to help defeat the Surrogate for good?
The Castoffs #6 – Charris, Trinh, and Ursa are taking a well-deserved rest in Clifton while the other mages prepare their forces for the next assault. Charris and Trinh struggle to show their strength, while Ursa questions her connection to the mysterious Priestess. But will the girls be allowed to join the fight? And will their powers be enough to stop the new, stronger Surrogate?
The Castoffs #7 – Our trio has a new assignment to fight the Surrogate—finding Ursa’s long-lost father, who might finally give them answers about the Priestess! This time, they’ve got help from elder mage Rosalba, and an incredible vehicle. But tension simmers—how can Charris trust a mage who could magically brainwash her at any moment? The key to repairing trust may also be the key to the Surrogate!
The Castoffs #8 – This issues finds our mages searching for Ike’s lost map—a much-needed edge in the upcoming Surrogate confrontation—while trying to learn to work together as a team. Rosalba has taught Trinh valuable new skills, but Ursa and Charris still can’t seem to trust each other. However, when the group runs afoul of a powerful loner deep in the wastelands, they’ll have bigger problems on their hands.
The Castoffs #9 – Our heroes’ hunt for the Surrogate brings them to the usually quiet town of Plumstead, but a rival trio of mages have beaten them to it, and are tearing the place apart! Aren’t these jerks supposed to be part of the same team? Their mission is to protect humans from the Surrogate, not terrorize them! It’s up to Charris, Trinh, and Ursa to shut their rogue guildmates down!
