King Ryckair and Queen Mirjel pursue the wounded dragon Baras as he hides and waits to rise. Together, as equals, they must complete a spell with a magical crown to return the dragon to eternal sleep.
Shara, Ryckair’s former lover, bears a son he was unaware he fathered, his heir who wants to kill him. Only the queen, who now wears the crown and rules the monarchy alone, can rescue him.
