The Camper: First Contact by Richard C Holmes (The Stellar Universe Era One #1)
Requirements: ePUB Reader, 321 KB
Overview: This is the story of a camper in the remote wilderness, approached by an emissary from an extra terrestrial civilization seeking knowledge for his life quest, his reason for living.
His race, the same as many others, has survived through the action of an individual rising from the populace to achieve Stellar heights of ability and now he senses the time is right on planet Earth for it’s own Planet Tamer to awaken.
For the camper, as time passes he finds that the remote wilderness is not so remote after all, that it has appeal to far flung others who have lost their wilderness and can only guess as the experience it offers. To them, a camper from an untamed planet offering to share his time in the wilderness is an experience valued highly.
Then through the years the camper experiences more of life, a new life, and is given insights into the changes befalling the human race.
Where did this come from?
Our existence in the universe poses questions we cannot answer. We can theorize and apply such conviction and science to these questions that we may think we know, but they will remain unanswerable.
A big question is ‘are we alone?’ With billions of years and many billions of planets in this galaxy alone, the possibility of life cannot be zero as after all we exist. Our existence proves life is possible. If life happened once, then why not many times?
Then, for those civilizations conquering aging and able to thrive, what would keep the interest of beings with such a lifespan? What would be a worthy achievement? Would the possibility of providing ‘pastoral care’ to a fledgling civilization produce just such an interest?
Now, consider the evolution of the human race; has it stopped? Why would it stop and how could it stop considering the pollution and stimulus rich environment we live in? Change is inevitable.
At a time when the human race is poised to discover new technology that would threaten its survival, when conflicts using weapons of mass destruction offer extinction and pandemics loom, how can the human race thrive?
