Oh sure, writing was always a challenge. Writers always had to come up with a good idea for a novel, then create a plot, a cast of characters, a decent setting and a subplot or two. (And then they had to embark upon the long and often soul-destroying task of finding a publisher.)
Today, it’s different. In many ways it’s better: you have a lot more options open to you when it comes to being published. You can approach traditional publishers, or choose to publish your books yourself; you can opt for print media, or create an e-book. BUT – along with more choices and opportunities comes more work.
If you decide to publish your own book, you have to start thinking about formatting it, and getting covers created, AND (here’s the kicker) doing the lion’s share of publicity and promotion.
I could go on, but you get the idea. Luckily, there’s a not-so-secret weapon that helps writers to cope with all this. It’s an essential tool in the writer’s little box of tricks.
