Overview: William David is the penname for the author who was born in eastern Kentucky, longer ago than he would like to admit. At the age of seven, his parents decided they could no long handle the cold so the family moved to central Florida where William grew up. Actually, he just grew older; it’s doubtful whether he ever grew up. The twelve-year-old is still inside and some days is in full control. His father died when William was twenty-four and his mother later married a man who was born in Nassau, Bahamas. William David has two master’s degrees and taught in both public and private schools. Besides reading and writing, William enjoys fine dining, theater, and movies.

1. Building A New Life
How many times have you been so fed up with your own life that you wanted to go to a new place and start a new life from scratch? Forty-eight year-old Michael Belanger moves to Sarasota, Florida, hoping to make friends and start a new life. His first friend is Henri Ruisseaux, an older hairdresser, who asks him to volunteer to help at a charity fundraiser. Only after Michael agrees does he learn that he volunteered to be in a lip-syncing drag ensemble. He reluctantly goes through with it, including getting a full body waxing, only to find that in the audience is Jeffrey Nichols, one of his former students – now in college – who has a crush on him. Henri also introduces Michael to Jennifer Hamilton, a second grade teacher, who quickly becomes his fag hag, and Fabulous Phyllis, a wealthy old lady who seeks out young gay guys to give them the acceptance that she cannot give her own son who committed suicide years earlier. Skinny-dipping, a drag show, friendship, Key West, parties, love, and a nude beach all play prominent roles in this character-driven story.

LIFE HAS OTHER PLANS continues the story of Michael Belanger who moves to Sarasota with the goal of coming out of the closet and making new friends. By now Michael has made a few great friends and happily thinks life is as good as it can get. Then he gets a phone call from a New College student who wants to write a biography about him. One of Michael’s friends, Henri Ruisseaux, celebrates a milestone birthday which turns out to be a major social occasion called Gaytopia. Also, Bryan Blair, AKA Moore Peters, visits Sarasota to see if he would like to move there.
3. Life Happens
LIFE HAPPENS begins with Michael Belanger and his friends on a Caribbean Gaycation cruise ship. A well-intentioned introduction is misunderstood and has the other passengers believing that Michael is a sex god. Shortly after returning home, Michael gets involved in a secret plot to help a former student who is in serious trouble. Fabulous Phyllis opens a nightclub in Sarasota called Gaytopia.
