1. A Very English Murder
Mother and son duo, Ethel and Billy Bobberton, have just landed in England for the start of their six-month tour through Europe. Their first destination is the medieval town of Bath. Ethel is beyond excited for the adventure. However, Billy could take it or leave it. It’s not the tour itself that has Billy wishing he was somewhere else, but the location. England tends to be cold, wet and miserable. It’s the opposite of what Billy wants from a vacation.
Still, it’s a vacation. His mother is desperate for them to have a good time together. Billy does his best to put on a good face and try to enjoy himself. And it works too! Day one sees them touring the town of Bath with others from their hotel. It’s not until the end of the day, when Billy stumbles upon the dead body of a guest from the hotel, that things take a turn for the worse.
The death is ruled an accident and the vacation continues the best it can. That is until another body turns up the next night. This body is the neighbor of the hotel that Billy and Ethel are staying at. The murders both appear to be accidental deaths. Billy notices a clear connection between the two. He realizes that if he wants this crime solved, it will be up to him to do it. If not, more bodies might join the first, and then his vacation really will be ruined for good.
2. Next Stop, Murder
It’s been one week since Ethel and Billy Bobberton started their much over-due six-month holiday through Europe. England was first, but their next stop is Munich which requires a nine-hour train ride across the continent. Where a nine-hour train ride might sound daunting for some, Ethel personally is looking forward to it; even more so when she finds herself roomed with handsome ex-detective Arturo Lopez.
But when Ethel and Arturo are having lunch together, a stowaway stumbles into the dining car with a knife wound to his stomach and bleeds to death right before everyone’s eyes. Arturo volunteers to work the case, and Ethel jumps right on board.
What appears to be a cut and dry case escalates when Ethel and Arturo find a mysterious key on the stowaway’s person. This key leads to a lock box which leads to a safe which leads to a mysterious man in a trench coat which leads to more murders, more questions to answer, and a mystery bigger than Ethel could have possibly imagined. Ethel was very much looking forward to Munich, but it looks as if that’s going to have to wait a while.
3. Murder in the Alps
It’s Ethel and Billy Bobberton’s last day in Herringburg—an isolated, German village located in the alps—and it promises to be a treat. There’s an annual alpine skiing race being held in the morning, followed by a day of drinking, fun and festivities. Even better, the local legend Noah Webber, a friend that Billy and Ethel made while touring the village, is a shoo-in to win! Really, it’s the perfect way to end their time in Germany.
By the time the nightly celebrations come around, Ethel is ready for bed, leaving Billy to carry on with Noah and the other locals. Billy does just that, drinking long into the night and enjoying his final few hours in Herringburg the best he can. But the good times can’t last. It’s early the next morning when he is awoken by a phone call from the local police station informing him that Noah Webber has been killed and Ethel looks to be the cause.
It doesn’t look good for Ethel either, who has no memory of the night before, and was found at the crime scene with the murder weapon in hand. Even worse is that in two days’ time, Ethel will be sent to Berlin where she is sure to go down for a murder she did not commit! With no choice, and no time to spare, Billy takes to the case, desperate to prove his mother’s innocence before it is too late.
