The Ancient Magic Saga series by Bob Blink (#2-3)

Overview: I am a former satellite systems engineer who always wanted to write. Early attempts were always frustrated by the conflicts of school, working, or life in general. While I was in the Navy for a couple of years, my experiences were restricted to teaching at the Nuclear Power School, so I have no real combat experience. I attempted a novel I intended to call "The Long March Conspiracy" when I was working on a satellite launch in China. I intended for the Chinese rocket that was carrying a US satellite to be sabotaged and blown up. During the actual launch I was working, the satellite actually did blow up, although not because of nefarious activities as would have been the case in my plot. None the less, it didn’t seem appropriate to continue with that story. Lack of free time was working against any progress anyway.

2. Into The Ruins
The Hoplani and their larger brother the Morvane, continue to threaten the Three Kingdoms. The Morvane have discovered they can bring down portions of the barrier, allowing the Hoplani access to the borderlands. It is only a matter of time before the towers are so badly damaged that the entire system will fail.
Rigo and several others elect to venture deep into the Ruins in hopes of finding an answer to the Hoplani threat before the barrier fails. But the Ruins have more surprises waiting for them than anticipated. Magic doesn’t always work deep in the hostile desert, and only luck and the intervention of the Duneriders, strange non-humans that live in the far reaches of the forbidden wastelands, saves the explores from death. Further explorations into the Ruins appear to be precluded.
Years pass as the situation in the Kingdoms continues to deteriorate. Nycoh, once a talented young girl and now the leader of the wizard community, discovers that there is a means to overcome the blockage of magic within the Ruins. The opportunity to continue the explorations sends Rigo and another crew even deeper into unknown territory. They find another land with alternate methods of magic exists far across the Ruins.
The land of Sedfair is threatened not only by the Hoplani, but by a strange warrior race known as the Baldari. The arrival of Rigo and his friends involves them in local politics and fears of invasion. Unfortunately, the wizards from the Three Kingdoms have lost the ability to return home, and are captured and stripped of their magic.
Back in the Three Kingdoms, the loss of contact with Rigo and his team has caused unrest and concern. Unable to follow after them because Rigo carried with him the only known talisman that would overcome the blockage of magic by the Ruins, his team is given up for lost. Daria and Kaler refuse to accept this belief, and prepare to venture into the Ruins in search of Rigo, despite dire warnings from Jeen and Nycoh that without magic such a trip is suicidal.
A series of unexpected events results in opening the way, and Rigo and his friends are rescued from their captivity, but the act results in conflict between those who control magic in Sedfair and the Three Kingdoms. With the growing threat posed by the Hoplani and the attacks by staff bearing "SpellCasters" from beyond the Ruins, the future of the Three Kingdoms is uncertain.
The ordeal has provided Rigo with clues to his own past, but little that would help solve the problem of the magical beasts that have long threatened the Three Kingdoms, while unleashing another war of magic upon the world. Somehow he has to find a way to bring together those he has learned to trust while in captivity and see if a way to end the conflict can be agreed upon.
3. The Baldari
The Baldari continue their attacks against Sedfair and the Three Kingdoms. Fierce as ever and now protected by a barrier that resists all forms of magic the wizards and Casters can bring against them, the raids press deep into the kingdoms as the Baldari pursue their unknown goals. Young Mitty, with her Farsight, is convinced the Baldari are somehow linked with the strange lavender-haired woman she sees in the peculiar crystalline chamber.
Realizing the attacks are going to continue, and most likely increase in frequency and severity, both Sedfair and the Three Kingdoms dispatch teams into the untamed jungles in search of the homelands of the Baldari, and in hopes of locating the woman in Mitty’s visions. It is only a guess that the Baldari come from the steaming, viper infested jungles to the south, but the limited evidence available suggests that is the most likely area where they will be found.
As the attacks continue, Casters and wizards become targets for the enemy. After capture they are soon seen again, only this time on the side of the enemy. The captured Casters, including the missing Shym, bring a new threat to the kingdoms on behalf the Baldari – magic. With Casters and wizards on their side, the Baldari can now use portals to appear anywhere in the kingdoms, and call upon the forces of magic to aid in their attacks. Soon the wizards and Casters discover that Shym is protected by her own magical shield. As more Casters and wizards are taken, including Burke and his team of explorers, the fear spreads that each will serve the enemy and be protected by impenetrable shields, making them impossible to stand against.
An unexpected discovery brings knowledge and some relief to the defenders of the kingdoms. Also, they learn that the woman in the chamber and her unconscious companions are surviving members of an ancient race known as the Brryn. The Brryn were the most powerful sorcerers of the ancient world, and in an attempt to consolidate their power and eliminate the rebel wizards that contested their tyrannical rule, they had unleashed a great war and had created the Ruins and later the fearsome Hoplani.
Soon there is little doubt the woman is controlling the Baldari as well as the captured Casters and wizards, and driving their attacks. It is also clear from the images Mitty sees, that the woman is gradually gaining freedom from her confinement, and soon will be able to escape and bring her own, far more powerful magic, to the battles that span the kingdoms.
An unlikely ally helps them locate the hidden valley where the Brryn are about to gain their freedom from the chamber. The question remains whether Rigo and his friends, with their inferior magic, have the time or ability to stop the all powerful Brryn.
