Overview: Life can be miserable, a fact that Mia knew all too well. Her life was looking like the typical corporate existence of dull meetings and endless phone calls. An office drone living in the middle of nowhere, no chance of escape. That is, until her Grammie died. In her final moments, Grammie played the same tape in her hospital bed; a tape of Mia acting in a school play when she was a little girl. When Grammie passed, she left Mia a good chunk of money. With that, Mia decided to pursue a career in acting. She uprooted her life in small town nowhere and moved to LA to pursue her lifelong dream.
Sophie was already partly living her dream when Mia decided to make the move. Modeling, b-movies, commercials, the acting equivalent of mowing the neighbor’s lawn for twenty dollars. Every actor Sophie admired started this way, so it was only a matter of time before she hit it big, right? One kind of acting felt better than the others, though. Voice-acting. Playing outrageous characters in cartoons and anime felt better than tired commercials and terrible budget horror. Sophie’s lifelong ambition was to play her childhood idol, a superhero named Imperial Red. But that felt more like a far off fantasy than making a living off acting itself did.
The two meet at Nea’s, a small pizzeria run by a tough chef named Miranda. Both frequent the place, but Sophie became part of a little group of girls known as “The Girls”. When Mia comes in to have a meeting with a prospective agent, Sophie can’t help but overhear when she sits nearby. Fearing the agent is a sleazy setback more than anything, she slips Mia her own agent’s card and tells her to get in touch. They land a role in the same film and well … one thing leads to another. Their lives become a struggle to balance growing fame, a long-distance relationship, and self-doubt.
