Overview: About the Author: I have been fascinated by Ancient Egypt for as long as I can remember. I had the opportunity to finally visit Alexandria, Cairo, Luxor and Aswan in 2010 when my daughter was studying Arabic at Alexandria University as a Rotary Ambassador. It was the visit of a lifetime, overwhelming, a bare scratching of the surface of that vast and complex land. A month later came the Revolution.

I own several hundred books about Ancient Egypt and use them to heavily research each of my novels. I try to make each novel as authentic to the time period it portrays as possible. Many of my current (and future) books are set in a pre-literate time with no written records, and so I’ve tried to be as true to current archaeological findings as possible when depicting my characters’ lives.

My current pre-dynastic novels are Daughter of the Falcon God, The Potter, The Women and the Boatman, and House of Scorpion. Next – First After the King (Fall 2019).

My dynastic novels are Beauty of Re, The Beadnet Dress, and The Gardener and the Assassin.

Beauty of Re
Neferure, the Beauty of Re, was the daughter of Hatshepsut, herself a daughter and wife of pharaohs, who seized a share of the throne held by her young stepson, Thutmose III, and ruled Egypt jointly with him for fifteen years during the New Kingdom’s 18th Dynasty. The Beauty of Re is the story of the struggle between Hatshepsut and Thutmose for control of Egypt, and, after her death, his creation of the world’s first empire.

The Beadnet Dress
Set during the building of King Khufu’s great pyramid, between the years 2571 and 2566 BC, The Beadnet Dress is the story of the seamstress Maetkra, the 167th person to bear a sacred talisman given her family by the falcon god nearly three thousand years earlier, detailing her rise from worker in King Khufu’s pyramid village to become a member of his court, and her subsequent fall. And it’s the story of Ahmes, the man Maetkra loves, low-born on an estate in the Nile delta, his life subsequently caught up in and controlled by royal machinations beyond his control.

The Gardener and the Assassin
Set between 1159 and 1143 BC, as Egypt’s New Kingdom was beginning to decline, The Gardener and the Assassin recounts events in the years before and after the murder of Pharaoh Ramesses III by his wife and son. Events include tomb robbery, the world’s first workers’ strike by the craftsmen who excavated tombs for pharaohs in the Great Place and for their wives and children in the Place of Beauty, the rise of the Amen priesthood, and the trial of more than thirty individuals from Pharaoh’s harem and army and household who were involved in his assassination. The story is told through the eyes of Neset, overseer of the third Ramesses’ gardens; Pentawere, son of the third Ramesses; and Kairy, chariot driver for the fourth Ramesses.
