This novel is a continuation of Fritz Leiber’s classic ‘Lankhmar’ series and is the first in a projected series of further adventures of Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser. Although published as book 8, this novel takes place early on in the series in the gap between “Ill Met in Lankhmar”, which ends volume one (AKA “Swords and Deviltry”) and “The Circle Curse” which begins volume two (“Swords Against Death”).
