Overview: SWORD OF TULKAR AND OTHER WRITINGS ON ANCIENT BRITAIN AND IRELAND is a collection of two short stories and 10 poems set in the long gone era of the Ancestors.
In SWORD OF TULKAR, a young woman at the end of the British Bronze Age finds her village burned by new invaders, the Horseheads. She is befriended by the mysterious smith, Tulkar, who lives in a remote cave with his large family, a hoard of metal objects–and the half buried remains of the old Matriarch of his people.
He makes a sword for girl, Ardagh, then vanishes, leaving her alone to find her way in a land of burial cairns and stone circles, of spirits and ancestors. And one comes to her aid–the spirit of old Ourar, buried in the smith’s cave.
With her spirit guardian guiding her, Ardagh learned both sword-arts and courage, and eventually confronts the leader of the Horsehead clan–the Queen Rianona with her sword of the new, cold star-metal…iron.
