Overview: DC Comics announced on Thursday a project entitled Superman Beyond. A spin-off of the long-beloved Batman Beyond, the one-shot will tell the story of an aging Superman who is drawn back into action even as his fabled powers are beginning to fail him. However, the real meat of this announcement (for me at least) is the fact that no less a writer than Tom DeFalco will be tackling the story, with the art chores being handled by Ron Frenz and Sal Buscema. Individually, they each have resumes far too lengthy to detail, having worked in the industry for decades. As a group, however, the three are perhaps best known for their lengthy collaboration on the original Spider-Girl series, which ran in one form or another from 1998 until 2010. Speaking for myself, when an industry legend takes on a project, I pay attention. When a trio of Marvel legends collaborate on a story for DC, I can’t help but find myself on the edge of my seat. Superman Beyond #0 will be available in August.
