Overview: The Summer Lake contemporary romance series follows a group of friends from a small lakeside town in the California hills. They have kept in touch over the years and now, in their early thirties, their lives are drawing them back to Summer Lake and to each other.
Genre: Romance
Sing Like Nobody’s Listening (#6): Kenzie Reid is a survivor. She’s been out on her own since she was seventeen years old. She may not have much to show for it, but she’s made her own way in the world. Other than her sister, Megan, no one has ever cared whether she lived or died—not even her own parents. When Kenzie visits Summer Lake to make sure Megan is okay there, the quaint little town threatens to cast its spell over her, too. The place has its attractions, not the least of which is Chase, the lead singer with the local band. Kenzie knows attraction doesn’t last though and besides, she’s not cut out for small town life. Chase Harper lives a life many guys would envy. He sings in a band, hangs with his guys, can have any woman he wants—and usually does. When he meets Kenzie, he soon realizes he’d gladly give it all up. He believes what they have could be a one-of-a-kind, but first he’ll have to convince her that it’s more than just a one-off. Will two people who weren’t looking for a relationship learn to trust one another enough to make it work?
Smile Like You Mean It (#7): Renée Nichols returned to Summer Lake because she had nowhere left to turn. Her marriage, the charity she spent her life building, her entire life—they were all shattered when her husband was arrested. She’s getting by, even if barely standing on her own two feet. She has a job, even if it’s not the greatest. She has her childhood home to live in, even if it’s barely livable. Gabe Morgan is back in town, too—even if he’s only visiting. Every time she gets around him her heart rate and her temperature soar, but that’s just her overactive imagination, isn’t it? He might be even hotter now than he was in high school, but he’s still the town’s golden boy. He’s the town doctor’s son, she’s the town drunk’s daughter. He’s one of life’s good guys, he’ll help her out because it’s what he does. But that’s all. Gabe Morgan has been spending as much time as he can back in Summer Lake—though he couldn’t tell you why. He’s a partner in a successful firm of trial attorneys in New York City. He’s gone out and conquered the world as he always knew he would. So why is it every time he comes home to the lake, he feels like a failure? He’s achieved so much, but he hasn’t found happiness. Running into Renée again has made him question everything. She told him that love, family, and happiness are the most important things in life. He’s starting to agree—but will she be the one to help him find them?
The Wedding Dance (#8): Missy Malone is about to marry Dan Benson. You are cordially invited to attend the wedding, in Las Vegas. As you might expect, these two will encounter a few bumps on the way to their big day. But this is Missy and Dan—you know they’ll overcome any obstacle in their path. Their friends will all be with them on their journey toward wedded bliss. The question is: which of them will be able to overcome some pretty major obstacles of their own? You’ll have to accept the invitation, and join the gang in Vegas to find out who else is getting married, who isn’t, and who’s expecting a baby!
Chasing Tomorrow (#9): Ben Walton grew up in Summer Lake, he’s always known that he belongs there. His goal in life has always been to grow the resort that his family has owned for generations. Charlotte DeWinter spent her childhood summers at the lake, staying with her grandparents. From the age of ten, she believed she would marry Ben someday. Ben believed it too. Everything looked as though it was on track for these two, until it all went wrong the summer they were eighteen. If you’ve read the Summer Lake series, you’ve no doubt wondered about Ben, and why he hasn’t had his own book yet. Chasing Tomorrow is Ben’s backstory, an insight into his past and what made him who he is.
Dream Like Nothing’s Impossible (#10): April brought her son Marcus to Summer Lake to escape their old life–to escape her ex husband, Guy. She’s spent the last couple of months building a new life. It might not seem like she has much. She has a job at the bakery, they live in a little rented house, but as far as April’s concerned she has everything she needs. She has Marcus and she has her freedom. And she has a little crush, too, on Eddie, the drummer with the band at the resort. She knows it’s crazy, what would a guy like him see in a woman like her? When he asks if she’d like to spend some time with him, she knows it’s only because all their friends are coupled up. It’s not much fun being single at the lake, so if the two of them can help each other out, then why not? Eddie’s tired of the life he’s been living. He’s done the partying and the groupies, and they were never really his thing anyway, they just went with the lifestyle. These days he’d rather hang out at his house on the water, he’d rather fish from the dock or just chill than party. He’d rather get to know April, but he knows a girl like her wouldn’t be interested in a guy like him. Still, Eddie made a promise to her son that he’d teach him to play guitar. The little dude seems to have lived through enough disappointment in his life already. Eddie doesn’t intend to let him down, and if that means he gets to hang out with April, too, then everybody wins, right? These two are both ready to take their lives in a new direction, but before they can they’ll each have to break free of the past.
Ride Like You’ve Never Fallen (#11): Lily’s family left Summer Lake when she went away to college. She tried to make her way in their world, but money and status didn’t mean much to her. After calling off her engagement and giving up her career, Lily’s back at the lake. She’s finally happy. She has a life she loves, and she’s pursuing her passion running the riding stables. There may not be any other kind of passion in her life, but that’s okay, or it would be if it weren’t for Nate. Nate’s her friend. Nate sleeps around. Nate is most definitely not the guy she should want to get passionate with, but, unfortunately, he is. Nate’s enjoying life in Summer Lake, too. His boss, Pete, may have warned him off the local women, but that’s okay, there are plenty of fresh tourists every weekend to keep him busy. He’d rather get busy with Lily, but that’s a bad idea. She’s his friend. She means more to him than just a quick hookup. When these two finally do hook up, they’ll have to decide if it’s worth putting their friendship at risk for a relationship that might prove impossible anyway.
Live Like There’s No Tomorrow (#12): Ben Walton is the guy everyone can turn to. He’s been a shoulder to cry on and a helping hand for all his friends as they’ve each met the love of their life and embarked upon their happily-ever-after. He’s the only one who’s still single. He lost the first and only love of his life when he was still only eighteen years old. He never thought he’d get Charlotte back, and he never thought he’d want another woman. He should have learned by now—never say never. He hasn’t heard from Charlotte in months, but he believes that she meant it when she said she was coming back—to the lake and to him. Even though he could never see himself with another woman, there is another woman who could happily see herself with him. He hired Angel to run the lodge for him. They have so much in common and she’s a beautiful woman—but she’s not Charlotte. If you’re reading this, I assume that you’ve been waiting for Ben’s happily-ever-after for a while. I hope you’ll enjoy seeing him finally find the happiness he so deserves
