Star Trek Year Four – The Enterprise Experiment Series: Book 1-6
Requirements: CBR reader, various size
Overview: D.C. Fontana, who started her career as Gene Roddenberry’s assistant during the Original Series, went on to write some of Star Trek’s most memorable episodes, including ground-breaking episodes of that first series, as well as the pilot for Star Trek: The Next Generation®, and contributions to the Star Trek animated series and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine®. Now Fontana adds Star Trek comic books to her literary legacy, continuing IDW’s successful Star Trek Year Four saga with co-writer Derek Chester (Star Trek: Legacy) and longtime Star Trek artist Gordon Purcell. Fan-favorite illustrators The Sharp Brothers will also contribute special covers for the five-part series, which debuts in April. The Star Trek Year Four series has chronicled the untold fourth year of the U.S.S. Enterprise’s legendary five-year mission, depicted for just three seasons on the original Star Trek show. For The Enterprise Experiment, Fontana and Chester craft a sequel to Fontana’s celebrated Star Trek episode "The Enterprise Incident," in which Kirk famously posed as a Romulan to capture a new state-of-the-art cloaking device. As of this writing (January, 2008), five of the six issues have been released. Because each issue has its own independent story, enough of the series has been showcased to provide an accurate review. The Original Star Trek Year Four – Enterprise Experiment Series was intended to be consisted of 5 books, but finally the series is issued in 6 books.

Book 1 (15467 KB): A sequel to the classic episode "The Enterprise Incident"—originally written by Fontana herself—where Kirk and Spock found themselves trapped on an Enterprise out of phase with space itself and facing a plot of revenge from Romulans!

Book 2 (9606 KB): The untold fourth year of the Enterprise’s legendary five-year mission continues! With the Enterprise crippled and out of phase in a cloaking experiment gone haywire, a Romulan strike force storms the starship, looking for revenge over their stolen technology. Kirk and Spock, meanwhile, must find a way to repel the invaders, while at the same time reverse the experiment and restore the ship—before it fades away completely!

Book 3 (11958 KB): A mysterious discovery on Loren 5 sets the stage for conflict between the Klingon Empire and the Federation. With the sudden absence of Organian intervention between the two powers, it could mean all out war. Now the crew of the Enterprise find themselves caught up in a race to discover the true nature of the secrets of Loren 5, as well as why the Organians have disappeared.

Book 4 (13094 KB): The Klingons have discovered what appears to be a Preserver obelisk, but can the Enterprise prevent them from unlocking its secrets before it’s too late? And what of the Organian truce? The answer lies within!

Book 5 (11538 KB): The U.S.S. Enterprise is dispatched to observe a Quark Gluon Plasma experiment at the Gemini Science Station—in orbit between two suns—in an effort to learn more about the beginning of the universe. But the formation of a black hole from the experiment’s outcome means eminent danger for Spock and Dr. McCoy who are stranded on the debilitated science station.

Book 6 (24617 KB): As Kirk and the crew investigate the disappearance of the USS Pasteur, a trail of debris leads the USS Enterprise to an automated facility on a lifeless, desert planet in the Gobi system. A landing party finds robotic nannies caring for a computer-controlled nursery of alien babies—which Dr. McCoy’s analysis proves to be the final survivors of the planet’s dead civilization. But when an ensign disappears, and clues of the Pasteur’s fate uncover the facility’s startling secret, the computer reveals it maternal instincts—using its awesome power to defend its children—endangering the Enterprise, and forcing Kirk and the landing party to fight for their lives.
