Overview: Kenneth Royce Gandley (1920-1997) was born in Croydon and served during World War II as a Captain in the Northern Rhodesia Regiment and the King’s African Rifles. After the war he became managing director of a travel agency, which allowed him to research locations for his thrillers. Overall, he wrote more than 40 novels, beginning with My Turn To Die, a spy stofy, published in 1959, but his breakthrough came in 1970 with The XYY Man, which formed the basis of a popular television series and not one, but two, spin-off series featuring Spider Scott’s nemesis, Detective Sergeant Bulman. Royce also wrote well-regarded spy fiction under the name Oliver Jacks.
Genre: Fiction > Mystery/Thriller
(01) The XYY Man
Spider Scott is the XYY man. The scientists told him that an extra Y chromosome was the reason he was drawn to a life of crime. They worked on him during his second prison stretch, and by the time he was a free man he was supposedly “cured” as well.
Spider wasn’t sure the experts were right, but he was certain of one thing: he wasn’t ever going back to jail. Spider Scott was walking the straight and narrow for the first time in his life … until a very interesting stranger made him an even more interesting offer!
(07) The Mosley Receipt
When Detective Chief Superintendent Moody is found dead in his bath only his daughter believes that it is no accident. She contacts George Bulman, an old Scotland Yard colleague—who in turn summons Spider Scott, his erstwhile partner in detection. Together they unfold a story of top-level government corruption which reveals the existence of a sinister conspiracy which has at its heart the involvement of Sir Oswald Mosley and the mysterious ‘Mosley Receipt’.
(08) No Way Back
In London a killer is on the loose, intent on avenging his girlfriend’s murder. Hashimi Ross is a highly trained and ruthless terrorist, who will stop at nothing to see that justice is done. Spider owes Ross his life, and now he finds himself the unwitting pawn in a battle of wits when the Security Services move to destroy their old adversary and deem that Scott’s own life might be expendable.
