Overview: Space Wars is the story of mankind’s first encounter with an alien race that turns out to be a both lethal and parasitic race, who are the main reason that mankind has encountered no other intelligent species in their expansion into the distant recesses of the Milky Way. All the others have been annihilated by the Flaarg, ‘The Ones’ as they refer to themselves.
The two principal human characters in the story are starship pilot, Hortense Grayson and her Martian born Chief Engineer, Rodrigo Sanches. They both find themselves tested to the extreme when they attempt, disastrously, to conduct the defence of the Solar System against determined attacks of ‘The Ones’, in particular their leader, Xloptrig, insatiable in his appetite for the life force of humans, and in particular that of Hortense, for whom he harbours a particular blood-lust.
The story includes the private and military lives of all the main characters and titanic battles that encompass the vastness of space and the private strengths and weaknesses of all the leading participants.
