They’d begun walking so Mateo could show them more of the area, and that’s when Cynthia had pulled her aside. “You’re blind if you think Acciona is going to go along with you, Cynthia, not after they hear what Harmon & Klein have to offer them,” Sophie said, more exasperated with Cynthia than anything. “You’re not winning this deal with what’s between your legs, Sophie Michaels, not this time!” “Oh, but you will?” Sophie asked, anger edging into her voice. “I do whatever it takes to win,” Cynthia said coolly. “Right, and then you try to put me down for doing the same,” Sophie said, shaking her head and putting her hands on her hips. “After all, Cynthia, it was you who taught me.” “A decision I seriously regret,” Cynthia said. “What made you so jaded, Cynthia?” Sophie asked, genuine concern in her voice. “Jaded?” Cynthia laughed. “Sophie, you don’t have any idea what jaded feels like, and you won’t for some years yet. But believe me, you will.”
