It’s a good dog that. Some like him, we see little. For Socrates – do not laugh, it’s his real name – is a talking dog. Better still is a dog that thinks. A dog philosopher, if you want. The kind to say things complicated. Like this example: "this sense of reality to take you into the abyss deliver as little as possible is really exhilarating." That is a champion dog! At the beginning of the book, he presents himself as a "half-dog." Normal: he is the creature of Heracles, the son of Zeus. So, as Hercules is a demigod, Socrates is a half-dog. For a dog philosopher, Socrates does not worry too much. His own philosophy is simple Bible: "When I am hungry I eat. When I sleep, I sleep." Ah, the good life of a dog that is! The rest of the time, he accompanied his master loved it. This one is not really a philosopher. Rather like the big hairy hefty, which breaks the figure for the poets and flirt with women. Only women, it is complicated, as everyone knows. So Heracles account Socrates to go spy on their conversations and repeat it. Instead of reporting a stick like any canid, so Socrates relates the conversation of ladies, simply.

- Socrates, the dog lover of philosophy and the gift of speech, the witness is privileged relationships that could meet the great figures of ancient Greece and mythology.
Sfar and Blain have already addressed several times on the Hellenic legends illustrating them or commenting them, often on behalf of other authors and just as often with happiness. Yet the first volume ofSocrates half dogwho had gathered around this theme has disappointed or even bored. Today, the dials are delivered on time, and with them much to have fun playing this album rich, irreverent, manipulative, and grinning.
Here, the heroes are not choirboys (Greek). And the red cheeks and regularly comes to the conscience of our canine talkative when confronted with basic instincts that let themselves go blithely supposed to be a race more advanced. Heracles, Odysseus and Homer’s Cyclops (!!!) are in turn the teachers of Socrates and the phrase "being in the same boat" often takes its full meaning in their travels.
While we are told? What was the ancient theater of perpetual war and vengeance, adultery and murder, adventure and discovery of marine creatures of legend. Nothing we did not already know but everything is brewed on a frenzied pace that flirts from time to time with the burlesque. The game is the alternation of rigor. In the story, the voice that we imagine in the usual solemn tone fun to play from time to time with trivial differences of language and dialogue to borrow them as well as current and modern expressions about ( pseudo-) philosophical. Drawing, Christophe Blain is in great shape and perfectly illustrates the changing rhythms imposed by Joann Sfar excited. He plays in turn the epic illustrators and "director" comedy with the same talent.
It is dense and soft, full and free, fun and exciting, sometimes frightening. But say the two, why the title of the next volume of these Greek adventure is it in Latin?
