Overview: In 1935, one hundred people descended upon the small town of Brecksville, Ohio to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Russ Snow’s arrival in Ohio from Maine. The celebration, called the Russ Snow Centennial, was two days of plays, music, skits, speeches, all celebrating the family patriarch and his family. "Snowville" traces the life of Russ Snow who in 1835 left a comfortable home and an established farm in Atkinson, Maine to escape a tuberculosis epidemic sweeping through New England. He travelled 1,000 miles west, eventually settling in Brecksville, Ohio, in order to start life all over again in a log cabin within the virgin wilderness. This is the life story of Russ Snow, detailing his sacrifices, ingenuity, self-sufficiency, and steadfast resolve that resulted in he and his family establishing a foothold in northeast Ohio, building a community that became known as Snowville by the locals. Snow’s story is culled from his letters, journal, and notebooks, as well as multiple Snow family publications from the past 100 years.
