Overview: Six Months Later is a young adult novel with an intriguing premise: A girl named Chloe falls asleep one day, and when she wakes up, six months have passed – and she can’t remember anything that happened during that time. She’s filthy, with dirt under her fingernails, and is getting returned phone calls from people she doesn’t remember dialing. Freaky.

What she can recall is being an average student pre-sleep, and now post-awakening she has straight As, the boyfriend she’s been lusting after (named Blake, naturally), and she’s wildly popular and suddenly philanthropic. How great is that?! Her parents think this new and improved Chloe is commendable, but her old best friend Maggie won’t even talk to her. Then there’s this weird attraction she has to the odd boy, Adam, despite dating dream-boy Blake.

So what the heck is going on and who can she trust? Did Chloe just suddenly apply herself in the new study group and realize her full potential, with a slight case of amnesia? Dare she risk losing Blake and prestigious college placements by questioning her good luck too much? What exactly does Adam know about all this, and will Maggie ever talk to her again? Then there’s her friend Julien, whose family mysteriously moved across the country without explanation or forwarding address, and who may have been having the same experiences as Chloe.

Blake’s attentiveness makes Chloe squirm, and she can’t help but wonder why, when she touches Adam, she recalls bits and pieces of lost time. Chloe starts to question if her therapist Dr. Kirkpatrick was involved in something sinister behind-the-scenes, and when the good doc turns up murdered, well, things start hitting the fan and suddenly many people are keen to know what Chloe has done with a little black box … as if she can even remember! Frustrated but determined, Chloe slowly assembles clues, makes connections, and tracks down the answer in an explosive finish.

First-time author Natalie D. Richards has crafted a sharp, suspense-filled mystery with great pacing and realistic characters. Chloe’s an every-girl you can relate to and whose plight will cause you to wonder, “How far would I go to ace my SATs?”
