Silver Series (5-5.5) by Rhiannon Held
Requirements: ePUB / MOBI Reader, 1.7MB | Retail
Overview: Rhiannon Held was born in Minnesota but moved to the Pacific Northwest young enough that she imprinted there instead. She got her MA in archaeology from Washington State University, and her current day job is as a professional archaeologist. Unfortunately, given that it’s real rather than fictional archaeology, fedoras, bullwhips, aliens, and dinosaurs are in short supply. Most of her work is done on the computer, using databases to organize data, and graphics programs to illustrate it.
Genre: Fiction > Sci-Fi/Fantasy
#5 – Death-Touched
Faced with the looming threat of the Russian pack, Silver and Andrew Dare plan to host an envoy at their wedding. The Russian alpha rejects diplomacy, however, and instead sends Mikhail, an elite assassin. Mikhail begins to ritually murder sub-alphas, leaving them to bleed to death from a thousand shallow cuts.
The Roanokes’ only leverage is Mikhail’s reverence for the Lady: he thinks She is reborn in Silver. Playing the Lady goes against all of Silver’s beliefs, but she yields to Mikhail’s invitation for her to join him in Russia. There, she hopes to wield the pretense of religious authority to depose the Russian alpha. Staying behind while Silver risks herself alone is more than Andrew can bear, but he must tread carefully to avoid triggering a pack war.
Still, if Silver can play the Lady, perhaps Andrew has a role as Death.
#5.5 – Lady’s Children
In their time as alphas of the Roanoke pack, Silver and Andrew Dare changed dozens of lives, Were and human alike. This collection gathers together moments in those lives, past, present, and future, illuminating those who touched the alphas in turn.
Four short stories follow Were as they struggle with a decision to be beta, a fight on the trail of a Russian artifact, a first shift, and a future in which Were are imprisoned across the world.
Two novellas – one never before published – follow Faith, a human archaeologist. In “Mistaken Captives,” she must fight to negotiate the Were world when she is accidentally kidnapped by the Russian pack. In “Contested History,” Faith must then summon all her diplomacy and bravery to direct an excavation to uncover Were history while protecting the Were man she loves.
