Shaolin Cowboy is an American comic book series created, co-written (opening dialog in each issue is written by the Wachowski Brothers), and drawn by artist Geof Darrow. The book is published irregularly by Burlyman Entertainment.

When you hear about a quartet of comic book adaptations on the horizon — including a project from "Matrix" filmmakers Andy and Larry Wachowski — you know it’s a good day for comic book and movie addicts everywhere. Today is such a day.

Variety brings us the news that Stephen Emery, newly hired at Circle of Confusion, will produce an adaptation of "Silverfish" with Joel Schumacher attached as director. Circle of Confusion is also working on adaptations of "Cryptozoo Crew," "The Psycho" and "Shaolin Cowboy," the last of which is coming from the Wachowski brothers.

The Wachowskis, who produced the adaptation of "V for Vendetta," are producing "Cowboy." Geof Darrow, the creator of the comic book, will write and direct the picture. "Cowboy" focuses on a former Shaolin monk who has been ejected from his temple. Since leaving, a bounty has been placed on his head and the wandering ex-monk is forced to battle those who have come to collect the reward. With the martial arts savvy Wachowskis and original creator Darrow steering the project, "Shaolin Cowboy" is definitely a project to keep your eye on.

The book is about an unnamed former Shaolin monk who wanders the land with a talking mule named Lord Evelyn Dunkirk Winniferd Esq. the Third. Having been "asked" to leave the Shaolin temple, he has since had a bounty placed on his head, which many are eager to collect. Given the Shaolin Cowboy’s prowess in martial arts, however, this will be very difficult.

Taking place in an unspecified time setting (as the first issue notes, "the day after yesterday and a week before tomorrow"), the book features extremely detailed artwork and equally violent and absurd action scenes; in one, the main character battles a giant shark with a human head in its mouth using two chainsaws tied on the ends of a long stick — which all takes place in the canalization in the stomach of a lizard, on whose back a city is located.
