Shakespearean Whodunnits: Murders and Mysteries Based on Shakespeare’s Plays (1997) Anthology by Mike Ashley (ed. Sun77)
Requirements: ePUB reader, 2.2Mb
Overview: The premise behind this anthology is simple. Each author has selected one of Shakespeare’s plays, taken certain key incidents and converted them into a mystery story. Each story remains faithful to Shakespeare’s play. They take place in the same settings and time as the original and include many of the same characters. Occasionally a new character or two has been introduced, but nothing that would seem out of place. Some stories are contemporary with the original play, reworking events from a new perspective to show how things might really have happened: the stories based on King John and Julius Caesar, for example, both do that. Other stories take place a year or more after the original events and consider the consequences of actions in the play: the stories for A Midsummer-Night’s Dream and The Merchant of Venice both show how the episodes described by Shakespeare set in train events that would lead to murder.
