In the meantime, Kyle finds himself restless for work and home. Finally, a police investigation into the fire compels their return to Grey to counter suspicion against them.
Not long after their return, a hunting trip forces Eva into an encounter with one of her own kind: a mysterious vampire who is connected to the Council but claims to be on her side. Although this new source seems to know more than he lets on, Eva believes his information on one of her enemies may allow her to finish her quest for revenge against the Antiqui. To assess her potential ally, Eva must face her prejudices against her own kind, and she again must make the difficult choice between her mission and the man who loves her.
