1. Surviving Magic
If Valerie is going to learn how to use magic, she must first learn how to survive it. Valerie grew up a normal girl. In high school, she was popular, smart, happy. But all that changes when her mother’s former life – a life kept hidden from Valerie – collides into Valerie’s reality. Forced to walk away from everything she’s always known, Valerie finds herself in a magic school where she may be protected, but she certainly isn’t liked. Facing classmates who resent her for being there and a faculty who are caught up in the same secret war that threatened her mother, Valerie is going to have to flourish or perish in her new reality.
4. Shadow Magic
The students and teachers of Survival School made a decision: they were no longer on a side. No longer willing to go along with the Council, and having struck a significant blow against the Superiors, Valerie, Ethan, Sasha, Lady Harrington and the rest are declaring independence on behalf of Survival School. They’ve had the summer to prepare and are now opening for business, but there’s no way this is going to go easy. The Council aren’t going to let them go in peace. The Superiors aren’t going away any time soon, either. What’s worse than either is the conflict within the halls of Survival School itself. Survival School is now a home for both returning Council students and new Pure students, students who have sisters and brothers who are still waging a war against each other, and now there’s a very real threat that fight will spill into the school. Can Valerie and her friends find a way to bring everyone together before they hurt each other? Can they withstand attacks from both sides in the meantime? And can Valerie keep out of trouble long enough to be around to be there when it happens? Well. Maybe, maybe not, but either way, it’s going to be one heck of a semester.
5. Battle Magic
Winter break is wrapping up and class is back in session at Shadow School. They weathered their first semester, but nothing is getting easier. Valerie’s stretched thin trying to balance all of her responsibilities as student body president, head of a student team, and the overload of classes she inevitably signs up for, but nothing can prepare her for the deception, manipulation, and loss she’s going to go through this semester. Ethan’s got a tough road coming, too. Normally, he can just make it all up as he goes along and everything turns out fine, but this semester, he’s going to have to put up or shut up, living up to the leadership potential he was always supposed to grow into. The whole gang is back, the school is filled to bursting, and trouble is coming from every expected direction, as well as a few unexpected ones. Welcome back to Shadow School!
6. Magic Unleashed
This was supposed to be how it ended. But the problems at Shadow School just keep getting tougher. After a summer abroad, so to speak, Valerie is head back to school for her final year. With troubling news from her mom and no new plan on the horizon for after graduation, Valerie and the crew have a tough road ahead of them, dealing with increasing Pure violence and the ever-present threat from the Council. With two very different callings on the table and the specter of everything changing in the near future, the Shadow world isn’t the only thing that’s unsettled. Valerie has a lot of decisions to make, and they’re going to be crucial to her life after school and the fate of the Shadows. Can she pull it together for one more year and come out of Survival School a survivor?
7. Blood Magic
Welcome back for the final semester of Shadow School. Three and a half years ago Valerie didn’t even know magic existed and now she’s right in the middle of a war to determine the direction of magic itself. With the Pure aggressively hunting families that won’t back them, refugees are turning up in numbers that the Shadows aren’t prepared to handle. The Council wants the school back, too, but are more interested in making examples than amends. And a secretive third force is nestled right onto the edge of campus, trying to undermine everyone. All the while, Valerie is trying to just be a student and figure out what she’s going to do after graduation. Where are her friends going to end up and will she even be able to see them, given the life-on-the-run that is being a Shadow? What is life going to be like? Can she even make it that far, given the powerful forces opposed to what the Shadow School represents? Guess it’s time to get to class. We have a lot to figure out.
