SCAM – Issue 1of 5 by Joe Mulvey
Requirements: CBR Reader, Size: 76.3 MB
Overview: This is pretty awesome; Joe has done a pretty good take on super spy comic books, with just a touch of the weird to make it all come together. I got a digital review copy from Comixtribe this morning, and sat down to read it, and read issue one all the way through. The story line revolves around a bunch of super spies who get in all sorts of trouble, from trying to rip off a bank safe to getting captured and beat up. The drill is a nice touch by the way. The cool part about the story is that these guys just cannot seem to win, everything they do gets mucked up somehow so that they end up having to fight off armies of cops, troops, government agents, super bad guys, you name it, these super spys are simply losers. There are touches of Archer in here, which makes this all the more funny.
I don’t know if they meant this to be a comedy of errors, but the comic really seems like the super spies move from error to error to error. The cricket bat is a very special tool that gets a decent work out later on in the comic book. Overall this is an awesome 58 page comic book which puts it on the rather lengthy side for a comic. There is a gallery at the back of the comic that shows real promise with Joe’s art work on this. He has taken his time with this comic book and it shows in a good high quality comic that simply rocks from cover to cover. The confession letter in the middle of the comic book is a nice touch to go along with that.
From an art viewpoint, the lettering is easy to read, the colors are amazingly good, and the story line is engaging. If you like reading super spies that never seem to work it out, or if you loved Archer, you will dig this comic book. This is a five of five star comic that is well worth discovering. These are the kinds of awesome finds that you get every so often in the independent comic book market, and it is well worth buying both the physical and digital comic book. Comixtribe has got a good comic book on their hands, and I hope that I see the rest of this series. Just send it over when they are ready to go.
