Writer Jean-Francois Di Giorgio and artist Frédéric Genêt tap into the rich mythology of the noble Samurai, creating a nuanced look at the fabled Japanese warriors in a captivating story filled with emotion and elegant artwork! On the borders of Japan, a terrible plot is being prepared: General Akuma seems bent on betraying the Emperor despite a mysterious secret that binds them. Meanwhile, Takeo the Samurai continues his quest to obtain the treasure from the XIIIth prophet’s vault and foil Akuma’s destructive plans. But there are many obstacles in his way: Akanobu — the mountain of the seven sources, whose rare visitors are never seen again — and the terrifying Shadow Sisters. Fear sets in. And it would be easier if Natsumi wasn’t by their side — Natsumi, on whose shoulders could lay the destiny of the kingdom.
- Samurai and his disciple interrupt their journey to help travelers attacked by robbers. Later, one of the girls they have saved solves a puzzle deemed impossible to religious connotation. Therefore the group will have to flee the evil forces launched their heels and desperate to seize the girl.
Albums dealing with samurai are not so common, and it is a very good first appeared this year. The temptation is great to compare to Okko Samurai, but it would be extremely simplistic;these two series have a different approach to medieval Japan, a world and a style of their own, and it is above all a very good comic book: it is likely that fans of Okko will take much pleasure in reading this right published in Sunny surprise. For his second album (and second collaboration with his former teacher Di Giorgio for Mygale), Frédéric Genet demonstrated great confidence. Its fall is superb Japan (helped by the colors very successful), and is equally at home in the richly detailed scenery in the action scenes in the original frame, that seem to cut the sword (of course). His wide shots on target only one eye (tribute to spaghetti westerns?) Finish to give a real personality in this world graphics.
The Heart of the Prophet is an introductory album but Di Giorgio does this thankless task with subtlety. The action is always present, interspersed with short scenes adding to the mystery around the samurai. The characters are the motley befitting good quest around the hero of few words and powerful, his second clumsy and faithful, a girl gifted and beautiful nanny. Rather, they are successful, and if we do not dwell here on their psychology,is primarily for the benefit of an effective rate that results in one go at the end of the album. An end in cliffhanger somewhat frustrating indeed, but the rest should appear in a few months. One more reason to engage in this promising series.
