Overview: The author is a geologist who has spent 30 years roaming the planet and collecting tall tales and real life experiences. She had worked in various countries in South America and Africa in remote, strange and often dangerous places and loved every minute of it. Many of the incidents and the politics described in the books are genuine although the original locations and people involved are disguised and melded into fictional places and characters. She is now writing fact-based adventure books from the relative safety of London but still travels all over the world collecting data for her books.

Sam accepts a job working for Gemsite at a remote diamond mine in Africa. She struggles to get accepted by the suspicious expatriate community. On a trip to the capital as courier for some diamonds she befriends General Fuego, the president’s brother-in-law. Unbeknownst to her, he is on a mission from the president to find out if the company is lying about the real production figures. Things start looking better when the notorious boss, Adrian Black, takes a shine to Sam but disaster strikes when there is a rebel attack at the mine and Sam and some of her colleagues are kidnapped and held for ransom.
