Ryojin: The Bonded Blade by Noah Ward
Requirements: .ePUB reader, 508 KB
Overview: In the land of Kaizen exist remnants of krystallis, coveted shards of elemental creators known as shogen, which fuel weapons and technology and whose abilities can manifest in sworn, people revered and despised in equal measure. It is here the reclusive mercenary, and krystallis hunter, Kaz, struggles through another fruitless and disastrous job. In the bloody wreckage, she uncovers no krystallis but Shay, a kidnapped, possibly sworn girl in the custody of the land’s ruthless emperor.
It’s not all bad, though: Shay happens to possess a shard of krytallis that Kaz has had her eye on for some time. And she can lead the mercenary to more–if Kaz agrees to accompany her across the freezing, war-ravaged region of Zenitia to meet her estranged uncle. Problem is, Shay’s lying about her family and Kaz’s payment. But, as a bumpkin from a remote southern village, battling to come of age in the violent north, she’s got no other hope than a woman who lives in isolation and fear.
Their fates are unwittingly entwined with Saito, a jaded war veteran and one of the most feared sworn in Kaizen, as he carves a violent path across the land in a self-destructive mission to overthrow his tyrannous emperor and seize rare krystallis. All the while, he is pursued by Gin, a shadowy spy shipped off to the cold climes of Zenitia by his father to track Saito, only to find his loyalties questioned as he becomes involved with Kaz, Shay, and Saito’s ultimate goal.
