Overview: A thirty-five year old mobster and his girlfriend were gunned down execution style in their car as they tried to drive away from a local bar.
Police say the murder of Paulie Lapienza of Lawrence was ordered by cocaine kingpins after discovering that Mr. Lapienza was a government informant. The murders set off an unlikely chain of violent events that lead to the arrest of Adrian Cabraal – an alleged upper echelon drug dealer.
"Adrian finally broke the only law he couldn’t beat – he broke the law of averages," U.S. DEA agent Bobby Russo said as he led away Mr. Cabraal in handcuffs." Rules Of The Game follows the rise and fall of drug kingpin Adrian Cabraal. It then follows him behind the walls of a federal maximum security penitentiary where he quickly discovers that living between written laws and unwritten codes means walking a fine and dangerous line. On one hand there’s mob boss Carmine Ruffino, the friend of an old friend who’s supposed to look after Adrian in exchange for his silence. Then there are the prison officials who want Adrian to set up Ruffino, or risk an off-the-record execution at the hands of their own henchmen. He befriends lumbering giant-but-loyal Warren Tyler Gates, and Nazareth – an aging African American sage – who try to cover his back on the one hand, while teaching him how to survive in America’s Dark Arena on the other.
Finally, there’s Benton Fulmer, the murderous convict Adrian crosses, who’s committed to making sure Adrian never gets out alive to rejoin the loved ones who refuse to abandon him.
Life is difficult in a world with no safe havens.
