Overview: A.R. Knight writes sci-fi and fantasy in the frozen north of Wisconsin. With a pair of cats keeping him company, he enjoys delving into adventures that are as much about the villain as the hero. After getting a degree in journalism and touring the country installing healthcare software, A.R. Knight thought it would be good to get back to what he loved. So now he’s got a small office and early mornings to spin whatever tales come into his imagination. When he’s not writing, A.R. Knight tends to travel anywhere he can, whether that’s islands off the coast of Ecuador, the rainforest, snowboarding in the Rocky Mountains, or sipping scotch in Edinburgh. That’s the nice thing about the writing life, you can take it anywhere.

Riven (#1)
In 1917, an orphaned Guide for the souls of the dead finds his life in danger as world war and disease break out. Hordes of new spirits mean plenty of work for Carver, a Chicago Guide who’s finding the line between the dead and the living is a blurred one. Riven, where souls go when they die, is becoming more dangerous as more and more of the dead decide they don’t want to go quietly, after all. Some stay because they have unfinished business, others because they have last loves to share. The problem is, the longer a spirit stays in Riven, the angrier it gets until the only thing left is rage. Get enough mindless anger in one spot, and there’s a chance the spirits might tear a hole back to the living. Carver can’t let that happen, but what starts as a simple task of taming the raging dead goes sideways when a strange soul that knows more than it should tells Carver that he may not be an orphan after all. That Carver might be the key to saving Riven, the spirits, and the world back home. The dead do tell lies, but can Carver afford not to believe?

The Cycle (#2)
With war still raging across the world, Carver’s running out of time to find the person trying to kill him. After all, what good is it to save himself if everyone he loves dies? The Guides see Carver’s associations with spirits as a risk and cast him out, sentencing Carver to be silenced – to have his connection with Riven shattered. Carver has no intention of letting that happen, so he runs, prompting a chase across the country as Carver races to keep ahead of Guide hunters while tracking down the one person who can prove Carver isn’t the problem. All while Riven grows more and more dangerous, with legions of raging dead threatening to tear everything apart.

Spirit’s End (#3)
Carver’s home is drowning in the angry souls of the dead, and his only chance to save it lies with the whims of a mysterious woman with her own agenda. The guides cannot keep up, and Riven is being overwhelmed with breaches and the flood of spirits coming through them. Carver and Selena, desperate to find a way to cleanse the tortured souls, turn to Nara for help. Only the ancient spirit has problems of her own, and before she can assist the guides, Carver must help her. As he learns more and more about Nara, however, Carver has to decide whether she can be trusted, or if Nara’s solution will be more horrible than the disaster they already face.
