Revolutionary Heart: Love’s Legacy by Jan Jarrell
Requirements: ePUB Reader, 275KB
Overview: When Nate Reese, Professor of Cinema and Media Studies at the University of Virginia, rushes to protect a female student under attack, he is severely injured at the hands of her assailant. Traumatized by the attack, Nate sets his feet on a no-holds-barred path of activism. He becomes a leader in the ‘End Assault’ movement, whose primary goal is to force University administrators into instituting policies which address safety concerns on campus. To his surprise, his primary frustration comes not from university officials, but from his partner, David Gardener, a veteran of 12 years as a successful, popular Professor of Revolutionary War History.

Fiercely protective of his hard-won status at the school, David is reluctant to support Nate’s efforts. Instead he lingers ineffectively in the background, longing to take a stand in support of the man he loves, but paralyzed by his fear of losing the position which has become the foundation of his self-esteem. His fear that Nate’s activism will have a devastating effect on both their careers, creates an ever widening gap between the two men.

Feeling abandoned by his partner, Nate sees David’s aversion to ‘End Assault’ as indifference to the effects of Nate’s attack. David, unable to convince Nate to dissolving his ties to ‘End Assault’, becomes increasingly withdrawn until separation seems their only recourse, a solution that neither man wants, but which seems to be inevitable.

Day by day their heartbreak grows as they watch their relationship disintegrate, while still struggling to resolve the disruptive issues engulfing the school they love.
At the same time Irishman, Colin Campbell, a handsome and dynamic Sergeant in the campus police force, fights his own on-going war against the criminal and sexual assault which has plagued his University. Colin, a law-enforcement legend on campus, focuses with single-minded determination on apprehending the perpetrators of these crimes, but his dedication is, in reality, a smoke-screen. Behind his obsessive quest to gain justice for assault victims lies a devastating secret. Ultimately it is his meeting with the dark-eyed Joshua Abrams which weakens his defenses and exposes the truth that lies deep within. His freewheeling bachelor existence is instantly challenged by the quiet, scholarly Joshua who entices him to make a commitment which is the exact opposite of the casual, friends-with-benefits status he has clung to all of his adult life.
Joshua, a Title IX consultant at the university, is powerfully drawn to the irresistible Irish policeman, but struggles to suppress his feelings, fearful of being abandoned by the freedom-loving Colin. Despite his trepidation, Joshua falls ever more powerfully under Colin’s spell, but eventually professional differences trigger an explosive confrontation which forces Joshua into a fateful decision, a decision which irrevocably alters both their lives.
When Joshua flees, returning to his home in Chicago, Colin is forced to face the fact that he needs Joshua much more than he realized, and that his love for the dark-eyed consultant mingles with memories from his past which he has struggled for years to suppress. Will he be able to put his pride aside and make the trip to Chicago to apologize for his mistakes? And if he does, will Joshua forgive him and return to Virginia, or has Colin’s secret and deeply seeded pain destroyed his one chance for happiness.
Four lives in turmoil, fighting for the relationships they cherish, and at the heart of the struggle, a great university fights to survive its most harrowing challenge.
