Overview: Was it patriotism? A tragic mistake? Or murder?
During a night raid in Afghanistan in 2009, a “Ghost” officer enters a dark compound in search of terrorists. The civilian commando is a member of the Special Unit (SU), an elite entity so secret few know of its existence. The President established the SU to enable the Pentagon to conduct complex missions and discreetly resolve problems. The SU “Ghost” officer kills civilians, including 16 schoolboys. The “Ghost’s” actions remain concealed until the present when another SU officer goes to the Congressional Oversight Committees and blows the whistle on the killings. The novel opens as the prosecutor for the US Court for the Eastern District of Virginia begins the State’s case against the alleged killer. During the course of the trial, troubling details and disturbing questions emerge. The “Ghost” officer operated in the shadows with little oversight…what were his orders? What really happened? Does anyone know the truth?
