Overview: Edens II appears as a result of the excellent response from both writers and readers to volume one. As before, our aim has been to assemble as varied a collection of stories as possible. This second collection is even more eclectic than the first, demonstrating the extraordinary variety of style and subject matter which the science fiction and fantasy field now encompasses. The stories range in locale from Ancient Greece to Mars and far beyond; they deal with classic themes such as time travel, parallel universes, outcast kings and even battles with dragons; they vary in mood from the droll to the surreal or the elegiac. Yet in every case there’s a strong sense of an individual writer at work, interpreting even the most familiar of themes in a distinctive fashion. These are stories which, though often they arise out of a tradition, are not content to be constrained by it; and as a result they offer proof of that tradition’s continuing vitality.
