Overview: The year is 2157, and the world is fragmented.
There are ‘blands’ – those free from mutation caused by generational overexposure to Wi-Fi radiation; and ‘demis’ – those whose mutations have proven not to be fatal, but instead, beneficial.
Fear and discrimination are rampant despite the world government’s peacekeeping force – the Vanguard, who, although, were initially commissioned to reduce the tension between the two divided sectors of humanity, have recently become more concerned with poaching powerful ‘demis’ for recruitment.
Mason Featherstone, is one such demi, and on the night of his birth, his parents are brutally murdered in his kidnap attempt. The leader of the Vanguard squad responsible, however, has an attack of conscience midway through the mission, due to deep-rooted personal reasons, and ends up killing the other squad members. He then absconds and purports himself to the raising of Mason.
Fast forward seventeen years. The renegade captain’s past catches up to him. He is therefore apprehended, and eventually slain in the ensuing skirmish. Mason, though, was not present at the time. But upon his cognisant return and discovery of his surrogate father’s death, his powerful ability is revealed; following which, he instantly slaughters two out of the three Vanguard agents waiting to ambush him. The third manages to escape, and as a result, Mason begins a life on the run.
On his journey, he meets multiple characters with interwoven stories, some of whom with which he forges strong bonds, despite his guarded nature. And slowly but surely, he learns to trust, even love… but will it ultimately lead to his demise?
