Occupy Earth Trilogy by Robert Charlton (#1-3)
Requirements: .ePUB reader, 1.6 MB
Overview: For reasons unknown even to himself, Robert Charlton loves to read and write about end-of-the-world scenarios and cataclysmic events that he would never in a million years want to experience for himself. The actual Robert lives peacefully in Boulder, Colorado and loves to hike and travel the world with his wife. Following the “Write What You Fear” school of thought, he has depicted a financial collapse in his first novel, "The Takeover," that has no bearing whatsoever on the real world (he hopes). He begs you not to sell your index funds for gold coins and mattress money.

"The Takeover" is Book 1 of the "Occupy Earth" trilogy. Book 2 is "The Occupation" and Book 3 is "The Resistance."

Robert has also written "How to Retire Early," which describes how he and his wife managed to retire at the age of 43. His crosswords have been published by "The New York Times" and "The Wall Street Journal."
Genre: Fiction > Sci-Fi/Fantasy

The Takeover (#1)
July 5, 2041

The takeover of Earth began so discreetly, it went unnoticed by every human being on the planet.

In America, folks had just finished celebrating the second (and, as it turned out, last) Independence Day of the new decade. Long after the celebrations had ended, small bits of matter—“seeds” let’s call them—began falling from the sky like pollen, drifting on the breeze and eventually planting themselves in the earth. Not all of them germinated, but enough did—some five million—to mark the beginning of the end of human supremacy on Earth.

Like all seeds, they represented potential. Tiny dead-looking lumps of matter can sometimes achieve great things. Acorns grow into oaks, cones fall to the ground and become redwoods, and winged maple seeds helicopter down from their parent tree with a full set of instructions on how to grow. So it was with these seeds. Soon they would grow into something unimaginably big.

All they needed was time.

The Occupation (#2)
2057 (15 years after the takeover)

“You saved us,” Lim said with the simple faith of the true believer. “Those on the outside just can’t see it yet.”

The aliens have settled in and show no signs of leaving anytime soon—which is to say, never. Inside their protective domes, they are secure from the barbarians without. As humans scrabble for existence outside the dome walls, the occupiers live in pampered splendor.

When six-year-old Elena was first taken to serve as a menial inside the Salesh dome (NYC-that-was), she was first altered—chipped and conditioned—to make her safe. A young brain is a pliable brain. Elena, and millions just like her, soon discovers she loves the Phants and lives only to serve them. She barely remembers who she was before, nor does she care. As Lim 127, she is perfectly content to live out her days in service to her masters. Now if only the humans on the outside would stop messing with everything…

Stupid mjinga humans. How she detested them!

The Resistance (#3)
2060 (1 week after the fall of Salesh)

“War is inevitable,” Zed told the assembled Phants. “Better to destroy the mjinga humans than be destroyed by them, wouldn’t you agree?”

When the Phants learn of the destruction of Salesh, it hits them like a body blow. They have always assumed themselves untouchable—forever beyond the reach of the barbarians outside their walls. And yet, here the humans are, messing with their force fields, attacking one of their city-ships, and actually managing to bring it down in the end. It beggars belief: how could the mjinga humans—the ones they call “stupids”—have accomplished such a feat?

One Phant by the name of Zed is convinced a certain menial named Lim 127 is behind it all. He sets out to capture her, interrogate her, and convince his fellow Phants that humanity must be destroyed at all costs—starting with the nearby city of Newark, cradle of the Resistance.

Thus begins the third and final installment of the Occupy Earth Trilogy.
