Overview: Jane Thornley has been creating stories forever, or for at least as far back as she can remember. She recalls telling her elementary school buddies all about an amazing flying horse she kept in her closet that she’d take for rides when nobody was looking. Though her friends loved the stories (and were waiting for a ride), the adults were not so amused. After that, it didn’t take long for her to sort out the difference between writing fiction and telling lies but the experience shaped her life from that point on. Now, as an adult, she’s lived many lives: English teacher, professional librarian, travel host, collaborator in a software company, a knitwear designer, and a superintendent of schools, but she considers "author" to be her default position. Jenna Elson has tried to escape her troubled past until her uncle’s sudden death brings her home to London. The police have ruled Uncle Dan’s death accidental but Aunt Clair is screaming murder. At first Jenna resists until more people die under strange circumstances–elderly people, vulnerable people. Their deaths make no sense. From the start, Jenna discovers that the young cast’s acting goes far beyond the play and that her two charges are working from their own script. What price will they pay to become leading ladies? What was the director’s father relationship with the dead girl? And what’s worse, who is sending texts to Arly and Zoe?
Jenna suspects an even darker motive behind the girls’ lies but when a stalker begins ghosting the girls’ footsteps and the texts become threatening, Jenna must quickly regroup before more kids die. By the time she discovers the truth, she almost loses her life in a struggle against a surprising adversary.
