2. Trifle and Trouble
Ever have one of those days… When you should have just stayed in bed? Former financial planner, Nessa Pierce, has some pretty big shoes to fill, as she tries to learn how to manage and run Crumbs and Confections, her late grandmother’s bakery. Swamped by the sheer number of huge decisions that must be made, Nessa feels like a fish out of water, and getting up in the wee hours of the morning to get the bakery going certainly isn’t helping her state of mind, but she’s determined to continue the legacy started by her grandmother. Finding a house in her newly-adopted town of Lake Wilawalo is a priority as well, and isn’t quite as easy as Nessa had hoped it might be. Things only get more complicated for the frazzled bakery owner when a resident is murdered after Nessa witnesses her being verbally abusive to a local chef. Feeling obligated to help bring the woman’s killer to justice, Nessa dives right into an investigation, only to find that there are so many suspects that she doesn’t even know where to start. Will Nessa find the killer and solve the crime? Will she find her house, and finally start to get settled in her new town? Will she create another no-bake masterpiece?
3. Cheesecake and Chills
They always say, follow the money. But sometimes the money…leads to murder. The cozy little town of Lake Wilawalo is up in arms when money for a radio contest goes missing from the local station. Suspects abound, and newcomer, Nessa Pierce, is dismayed to find herself among them. It’s not easy fitting in to a small town, and Nessa, having had more than her fill of whispers and suspicious looks, decides to do some investigating, wanting desperately to clear her name. All she wants is to be able to run the bakery that she inherited from her late grandmother, and in order to do that, she has to prove her innocence to folks who assume that strange events in town have nothing to do with her moving there. Can Nessa solve the case and continue supplying the bakery with her delicious No-Bake treats?
4. Meringue and Mischief
Sometimes, doing the right thing… Can be murder. Nessa Pierce has a heart of gold, and when she sees someone in trouble, she feels compelled to help. When a young woman is tossed out of her apartment because an obnoxious summer tenant shows up early, Nessa is indignant…and curious. Things take a dark turn when the new tenant is murdered. The list of suspects is a mile long, and Nessa knows far too many people on the list, so naturally, she dives right in to an investigation. It soon becomes more than obvious that Nessa isn’t the only one doing a shadow investigation, and it seems like whoever is searching for clues is right on her heels. With the help of her friends rallying around the cause, Nessa is determined to get to the bottom of the mystery. Will she find the clues and solve the crime?
5. Shortbread and Shivers
The one place where we should be safe… Is in our own home. Amateur sleuth, Nessa Pierce, is a bit unsettled by what seems to be a property line disagreement between some of her neighbors. The situation takes a very dark turn when one of the battling neighbors is found murdered. The suspects for this particular homicide are literally a bit too close to home, and Nessa wonders if the feud has anything to do with the murder. A privacy fence goes up between the victim’s home, and that of his contentious neighbor, and other neighbors are taking sides. Can Nessa untangle the clues and bring harmony to the traumatized neighborhood? Or will everyone have to peer suspiciously out from behind their curtains forever?
6. Truffles and Trials
Fool me once, shame on me… Fool me twice, and it could be murder. Amateur sleuth, Nessa Pierce, is dismayed to overhear an elderly woman fretting about being scammed by a local used car dealer. Things get really interesting when the dealer turns up dead. Apparently the elderly woman isn’t the only one who had run-ins with the less-than-reputable businessman. The suspects are many, and Nessa has her hands full with trying to determine who would do such a heinous thing. Just when Nessa thinks that she has the crime solved, and the murderer pinpointed, a crucial event turns her entire theory on its head. Can she regroup and solve the crime?
